My parents are here! They've been here for exactly a week. Had a trail of interesting events.
First, my mother lost her luggage at Newark Airport. The bag just never did turn up. And when she arrived at Chinatown DC, she was alone. She lost her husband. :) My dad missed the bus when he slipped out of it in Baltimore. He wasn't supposed to and the driver was reluctant to wait. But of course he arrived eventually.
Saturday July 1st - Rise and shine to Michelle's continental breakfast. We then walked down to join The Capitol queue. The interior of The Capitol is quite pretty - historical paintings and statues of Presidents everywhere. Next stop, another long queue at the Market Lunch, a food stand in the Eastern Market. We had a crabcake sandwich and a blueberry and buckwheat pancake with maple syrup. Mother being clothless, we went to the Fashion City Mall in Pentagon area for some shopping. Thankfully my mother managed to get some. We had yummy dinner - my mother cooked sambal shrimp, stew chicken and potato and fried vegetables at the apartment. I almost ate the plate. ;)
Sunday July 2nd - We left in the wee hours of the morning to board Greyhound bus to Colonial Williamsburg, VA. GreyHound SUCKS! Bad, bad experience! Delayed and couldn't get into the bus because it was overbooked. Came back to DC and realized Greyhound works on a first come first serve basis. So dumb. Don't bother writing the time of departure on the ticket then.
Nonetheless Colonial Williamsburg was a pretty place. It brings you back into history to the time of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, the time of the Declaration of Independence, etc. We had a wonderful seafood dinner at Christiana Campbell's Tavern. We had delicious crabcakes, fried oysters and fricassy of lobsters, shrimp and scallop. It was expensive but worth the money.
Monday July 3rd - Just walking around the three hundred over-acre resort, going into the cute, little shops and seeing people dressed like the olden times. And of course back to DC by that stinking Greyhound Bus. Managed to watch fireworks at Richmond, VA.
Tuesday July 4th - INDEPENDENCE DAY! Caught some fireworks from the apartment itself, as I'm pretty close to the National mall. Watched Cinderella Man with my mother and father.
Rest of the other time, it's just me and my parents hanging out, watching movies, eating food. :)
